A Cut Above
Highlighting Mike Bacchetti at SaveMart
In my daily travels, I do my best to be present when I encounter someone delivering outstanding customer service. Why? Often, the focus is on unpleasant experiences, and the employees showing kindness and delivering exceptional service go unseen.
In my search for these experiences, I have met some incredible people, and today was no different. This morning, I went to the grocery store looking for filet mignon for a dish I wanted to prepare. I needed a very tender cut of meat. When I didn't see it in the cooler, I asked the butcher if he had any. He said he didn't. I thanked him, and then he turned and said, "I can cut you a couple of pieces!"
Surprised, I replied, "Really?" I was shocked that he was willing to do that for me. But when he told me the price, I quickly changed my mind. LOL. Then he asked, "Have you tried Wagyu beef?" For health reasons, I don't eat a lot of red meat, so I responded, "No, I haven't." He proceeded to tell me how good it was and mentioned that it was on sale if I wanted to try it.
It was a pleasant encounter. I felt like I was being served by the neighborhood butcher who takes pride in his product and genuinely cares for his customers. Upon Mike's recommendation, I decided to try the Wagyu ribeye steak. One of the other butchers also commented on how delicious Wagyu is!
When I got home, I looked up some facts about the meat. I learned that Wagyu beef originated in Japan and is known for its extraordinary marbling, which yields exceptional tenderness and a rich, buttery flavor. This was precisely what I was looking for. Using the best ingredients can take a dish from mediocre to something extraordinary. Though I don't eat beef often, Mike's recommendation was spot on and the perfect choice for my recipe.
Mike's suggestion was perfect, and my encounter with him was, too. Mike, thank you for a great customer experience. Please continue framing your customer interactions with your presence, attention, and care!
